Philosophy and Mission
Seton Catholic Central School acknowledges the
God-given dignity of each person and its mission of Catholic Christian
education. Catholic Christian values are upheld and taught within the
curriculum and permeate the school environment that each student may grow
and become mature and altruistic members of the world community. This
requires the education of the whole person, spiritually, physically,
academically, and aesthetically. It requires the development of knowledge,
personal responsibility, and discipline necessary for living out the true
freedom characteristic of America. Our aim is to develop a generous and
loving concern for all people, with deep respect for God-given individual
differences; to instill in our students the desire for continuous learning,
self-improvement, and self-respect in order to meet the challenges of life;
to inspire the student to make a life-long commitment to Gospel values,
social justice, non-violence, and peace in our world today. We encourage our
students to be God-centered, strong, upright, wise and articulate men and
women who take their rightful place in the Church and in the world. A child's first and greatest teachers are their parents. A qualified faculty collaborates with the parents in fostering the individual growth of the whole person. We offer a diversified and comprehensive education in which intellectual curiosity is encouraged. Through an evolving curriculum suited to particular needs, we aim to nurture the talents and skills of our students as expressed in the above mission statement. Our History Seton Catholic Central celebrates its position as a tradition in the community. Founded in 1989 at a joint meeting of the Board of Trustees of Mount Assumption Institute and the School Board of St. John's Academy, Seton Catholic Central stands on the shoulders of giants. The richness of the traditions of both schools in harmony with the spirit of our patroness, Saint Elizabeth Seton, allows for a quality learning environment infused with Catholic Christian values. In 2001, Seton Catholic Central further expanded its program to include a grade 7-8 program.
Our
Patroness Saint Elizabeth Seton is the patroness of Seton Catholic Central School. She was the foundress of the first free American Catholic School and is the first American-born Saint of the Roman Catholic Church. St. Elizabeth Seton is known as the patroness of Catholic education. Seton Catholic Central stands in a fine tradition of high quality Catholic education begun in 1900 in New York State.
